Why Spider-Man Being Added to the MCU Really, Really Sucks

A lot of people forget or do not know that the Avengers didn’t used to be popular. People didn’t give a flying fuck about Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, ect. That is just what Marvel was left with after selling off the rights to the much more popular X-Men and Spider. Hell, they even sold the rights to Blade, Punisher, Daredevil, and Fantastic Four while being stuck with the Avengers! It sounds nuts now but the only reason Iron Man and company are as popular as they are is because Marvel didn’t have any choice. That is all they were left with. They made do with what they had and thank god they did because it has become awesome.

This lack of the big dawgs (Spider-Man and X-men) have also lead to movies being made such as Guardians of the Galaxy and future movies such as C and D list Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Inhumans, ect. If Spidey and X-men were around, these movies simply would not have been in production because… why would you when you could make much more money with Spider-Man, Wolverine, and X-men. Financially it makes no sense.

Sadly, with a return of Spider-Man to Marvel (in some capacity), we are going to see the effects of an A list character mucking up shit for everyone else.

Already, Spider-man has taken a prime summer spot from Thor, pushing Thor 3 (called one of the most important movies by Fiege….) back into the fall. And it has sent a ripple effect through all the announced movies, pushing them all back by 4-6 months. Even my beloved Black Panther!

And when the Avengers all meet up… do you think Spider-Man or Dr. Strange is going to get more lines? In Civil War, you think they are going to cut Stark’s screen time or T’challa? When Phase 3 ends (and the contract of the big three end as well) and the Avengers possibly need a new leader other than Stark/Cap… you think Spider-Man is a possibility or Captain Marvel and Luke Cage?

If you are a fan of Spider-Man… this is great news. But fan of C-list characters? This fucking sucks. You have one more A lister (THE A lister at Marvel) stealing a movie slot every 3 years that would have went to some lesser known characters.

Listen, I like Spider-Man. But there is really nothing unique about him at this point in the movie world. There is nothing super interesting. He is just a prototypical hero… his only real defining feature is that he is in high school.

You want different? How about a race of people with mutant like powers when exposed to a mist lead by a king who can’t speak without blowing up a city (Inhumans). How about an African, genius, king who leads the most technological country in the world that has never been conquered by outside force (Black Panther). What about the Sorcerer Supreme!

Wanting Spider-Man with Marvel may be a “be careful what you wish for” thing for us peeps who prefer C-list heros.

The 2nd Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer Was Perfect

.

This trailer is perfect.

Why you may ask? Because it did what trailers are supposed to do… tease you, make you think, make you come up with tons of fan theories about who/what/when, ect. All while not really showing you shit and telling you what is going to happen.

How much of a the plot do you really know from both trailers? Ultron gets created, Ultron goes ape shit, Hulk goes out of control… and thats pretty much all we REALLY know for sure. Sure, we can fan theory a bit (Scarlet Witch is likely messing with Hulk. Looks like Ultron is headed to Wakanda. Avengers are going to find Loki’s scepter. Ect). But cold hard fact? That is it.

The trailers keep adding more QUESTIONS than answers. Who is that black chick in the water? Shuri? A Dora? Who is eletracuting Thor? Witch? Enchantress? Someone from Wakanda?

And we still haven’t seen Vision. We aren’t sure if we have seen Ultron’s final form. Still unsure of the Twin’s roles.

Perfect perfect perfect. Last trailer I will watch. Not going to spoil this movie for myself.

Avengers: Infinity War Thoughts

So this is it. Ever since the reveal of Thanos at the end of The Avengers, the MCU has been slowly building to this… Infinity War. The event will be so big, it will actually be two movies.

We got teased by the Infinity Gauntlet in Odin’s Vault in Thor. We got teased by Thanos in The Avengers. We actually heard and saw Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy. So, let the speculation begin…

– We have seen four of the six Infinity Stones in the movies so far and the Infinity Gauntlet…

— Tesseract- In Asgard under the protection of Odin (Loki)
— Gauntlet- In Asgard under the protection of Odin (Loki)
— Aether- Last seen with The Collector, although his house went boom in Guardians of the Galaxy
— Scepter- Last seen with Baron von Strucker of Hydra in the after credit scene of The Winter Soldier.
— Orb- On Xandar under the protection of the Nova Crops as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy.

So we need two more. There are plenty of movies to introduce the last two with Dr. Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Infinity War Part 1, and Inhumans being prime candidates.

– Big Question #1… when is Thanos going to you know… actually collect the Stones? So far, not only has he failed to collect any Stones but he actually lost one (Scepter). Thor: Ragnarok sounds like a good place to start collecting the Stones and Gauntlet (especially if Loki is still working for the Mad Titan). Will they use Infinity War Part 1 to continue the collection as well?

Thanos Gauntlet Gif

– Big Question #2… how many Avengers will show up in this War? And how many will show up in BOTH movies? It seems highly likely that the originals with solos- Stark, Cap, Thor- will only show up in one of the movies as their contracts will end then. But, at that point in the movies, you will have the following Avengers/Heroes available…

— Iron Man
— Hulk
— Thor
— Captain America
— Hawkeye
— Black Widow
— Nick Fury
— Maria Hill
— Vision
— Quicksilver
— Scarlet Witch
— Star Lord
— Groot
— Rocket
— Drax
— Gamora
— War Machine
— Falcon
— Black Panther
— Captain Marvel
— Dr. Strange

and then add in potential Avengers such as Winter Soldier, any other members that show up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, any members of TV show Agents of SHIELD (Coulson, Mockingbird, ect), AND it could include any of the Netflix heroes if they really wanted too (Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Daredevil). Frankly… there is a huge potential list of heroes to show up but how may is Marvel really going to want to pay? And who might potentially be killed?

Avengers Comic Book

– Why is Loki going to be in this movie? Is he going to help the Heroes? Is he still working for Thanos? If he is… I would 100% expect him to flip sides at least once or twice.

– So… what do you do after a movie this big? What villain can compare to an omnipotent Thanos hell bent on destroying everything? The story cannot get bigger at that point. You would have to scale back. Do they go with a time traveling story with Kang? Get the Earth based villains together with Masters of Evil? It will be very, very interesting what happens after all this.

Kang: Next Movie?
Kang: Next Movie?

Civil War and Ragnarok Thoughts…

Two of Marvels OGs, Thor and Captain America, are getting third movie during Phase 3. Both were expected to get a third movie considering the profits made (especially Captain America) but it was nice to get confirmation. The subtitles given to these movies help us define what is going to happen even more as they are both the names of some pretty important comic book arcs/stories.

Let’s start with Thor: Ragnarok…

thor: ragnarok

– Thor: The Dark World underwhelmed a bunch of people and money wise, was underwhelming when compared to The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. Sure, I loved it, but I am a Thor fan through and through. So I am looking forward to this movie big time.

– The very, very basic Ragnarok storyline is this basically, the fall of Asgard. It is a cycle of death of Asgard and the rebirth of Asgard afterwards. In the comics, Ragnarok is brought on by the release of Surtur the fire demon and the creation of the Twilight sword (think a super powered Balrog with a giant fucking sword) as he marches his fire demons into Asgard (and Earth) to destroy it essentially. Surtur is as strong if not stronger than Odin. In the comics, Loki is the one that started this (with Malekith I think) so it will be curious to see how this all works with Loki impersonating Odin right now.

surtur
Surtur

– Kevin Feige, the MCU architech, says this moving is going to have massive reprocussions on future story lines and Thor, doing what The Winter Soldier did for Captain America and the larger MCU (destroying SHIELD). To me, this HAS to mean this movie leads to Thanos acquiring the Tesseract and the Gauntlet (both in the Asgardian vaults) and likely has Thor take his place as King of Asgard with Odin being killed off with Surtur. This solves two problems for Marvel. (1) This gives Thor an out from not appearing in one of the Infinity War movies (due to his responsibility of rebuilding Asgard) and (2) Starts the process of Thanos actually aquiring the Infinity Stones since at the moment, all he has done is lose one of them (the scepter) and failed to acquire any of them.

– What likely happens I would guess… Loki releases Surtur (or Thanos does) on Asgard as a distraction to get the Tesseract and/or the Gauntlet to Thanos (Loki is likely still working for Thanos at this point). Fire demons may or may not be sent to Midgard/Earth as well. Odin and Thor defend Asgard, with Odin dying to stop Surtur and Thor now being King. The Gauntlet and Tesseract is lost in the destruction (as well as Loki likely getting away), starting the process of Thanos actually collecting the Infinity Stones.

– We know Loki survives as we have heard he is going to be in Avengers: Infinity War. Is he going to switch back to the good side in Infinity War or is he one of Thanos’s generals? Who knows at this point with Loki.

– One thing I hope Marvel learned from Guardian of the Galaxy’s success… we don’t need Earth in a cosmic movie. Thor 3 can entirely be set in the other 9 realms and people will still come in droves if the movie is good. Please, end the Jane Foster stuff… it isn’t needed for this storyline.

.

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is getting much, much more press than Thor: Ragnarok and for good reason. (a) The Winter Soldier was one of the best comic book movies ever and the same directors are coming back. (b) Civil War is an iconic storyline in the comics. (c) Tony Stark is going to be in the movie. So, what could this all mean really and what do we know?

– Civil War in the comics had mostly to do with the Super Hero Registration Act and the “end” of secret identities. Obviously, there are no secret identities in the MCU so that won’t be part of this. I imagine, there will be some sort of government law or act or attempt to control the super hero… Tony Stark will go along with it to some extent while Cap will not. Leading to fun times.

– From the very beginning in Avengers, there was tension between Captain America and Tony Stark. In Age of Ultron, apparently that tension is going to multiply.

Captain America/Iron Man Civil War

– RDJ being in this movie plus the movie being the first big movie after Age of Ultron (sorry Ant-Man) means it is going to do a billion dollars easily. This is going to be like a mini-Avengers movie.

– Oh… and T’challa/Black Panther is going to be in the movie. How? Why? I am not really sure. Does the world get involved with this act instead of just the United States and Wakanda/T’challa supports Steve Rogers? This will be interesting to see how big of a role Black Panther plays in this movie.

– Hawkeye has also been confirmed in this movie. I would assume he would be on Stark’s side (someone needs to be).

– And how many other heroes are going to show up? Quicksilver? Witch? Widow? Vision? Fury? Falcon?

– And what happens to the Winter Soldier story line now? Most people Cap 3 would be a continuation of the Winter Soldier stuff + someone like Zemo to act as the villain. But with Civil War now becoming the focus… what happens to that?

– Is there even going to be a central REAL bad guy?

Black Panther Thoughts and Fan Boy Reactions

I was on a random, Indiana Pacers blog discussing the Avengers movie and bitching that the Black Panther still hasn’t had a movie when someone posted 30 seconds later…

“Marvel just announced a Black Panther movie.”

I swear, my heart may have stopped a bit. I immediately raced to comicbookmovies.com to make sure I wasn’t being trolled. And sure enough, there was a post saying essentially, “Marvel announces next slate of movies.” I clicked the post and raced down to find “Black Panther” in the list.

And there it was!

MarvelBlackPanther

I was so excited I didn’t even read to see the rest of the announcements. I immediately just raced to the CBR forum Black Panther Appreciation thread to celebrate and start talking about the movie immediately. It was only then I started reading about the other movies and about the details of Black Panther.

T’challa/Black Panther is simply my favorite comic book super hero. Priest’s run is one of my favorite comic book runs ever. The Client and Enemy of the State are two of my favorite arcs ever. Liss’s run was fantastic. Seeing T’challa front in center during Hickman’s New Avenger/Avenger/Time Runs Out run could potentially be T’challa’s shining moment (once the rebuilding starts and the deconstruction ends). T’challa in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was easily one of the highlights of the show.

Simply put… a genius, ninja, master strategist, King of an fictional African Warrior Nation that just happens to be the most advanced nation in the world who is also a super hero? DAT IS IT MANE!

After the jump, less fan boy ramblings and more facts and thoughts on what we actually know about the Black Panther in the MCU…

Marvel Drops the Mic on the World: Marvel’s Full Slate of Movies is Announced + Extended AoU Trailer

Welp, that escalated quickly.

DC went and announced their schedule, effectively bringing ALL of the attention on them (and away from Downey Jr saying he would be in Cap 3). And for good reason… Justice League is the most famous of all super hero teams, Wonder Woman is the comic book heroine, and well… it looked like DC finally had a PLAN in regards to the DC movie universe. Sure… I did not like all of that plan (Erza Miller? Cyborg? Shazam?) but at least it was something.

It seems Marvel did not approve of the attention not being only on them. First, they released the Age of Ultron trailer (after it was leaked) which effectively made people go “who is DC” and focus only on the fact that Ultron seems terrifying.

And then Marvel said there would be more on Tuesday. Most of us expected maybe a new scene in Age of Ultron. Maybe some details on Captain America 3.

We got more than we expected. We essentially got EVERY SINGLE movie announcement in Phase 3… including some fan favorites that we have been clamoring and begging for.

So here is what was announced. Just a quick post for scheduling… I expect to go over more of these in later posts… some of them are worthy of their own posts all together. All other things are put on hold at this point because.. MARVEL WINS THE INTERNET!

So, here is the new movie slate for Marvel…

LOL at Thor’s face when Rogers moves the hammer a bit…

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer Thoughts

– Ultron’s voice is absolutely perfect. Marvel continues to nail shit like this. He seems utterly terrifying and seemingly will offer a true threat to Earth’s mightiest heroes.

– Which was Ultron’s final form? The one in the last scene? Or the one in that scene with the twins? Or have we not seen his final form?

– The trailer gave us only a tiny look at the Twins: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. They are giving QS blue streaks when he runs which should look cool visually (but dat costume… das not it). And Witch… still no idea on her real powers.

– And why were the twins with ULTRON in a scene? Seemingly helping him? Doesn’t make much sense to me. We knew they would be “bad” to start (just like their comic origins) but that would be with von Strucker and Hydra we thought. Not Ultron?

– This trailer was dark as fuck. But we know this won’t last. Marvel isn’t known for dark. Sure, their movies may have some darker moments (Coulson getting stabbed, Frigga getting stabbed, Stark’s anxiety thing, Cap stuff, ect) but they are known for being entertaining, fun, and humorous. There WILL be humor and fun involved… this trailer just showed the dark side.

– WHO IS ANDY SERKIS PLAYING! From the one glimpse we got, he looked a lot like Klaw, the Black Panther villain. Combining Klaw with a plot that centers heavily on Ultron trying to find Vibranium to upgrade and how can this movie NOT lead to a Black Panther appearance or solo? If it doesn’t, this is an absolute travesty.

– Still no shot at the Vision which is a shame. Still really really want to see him.

– The Avengers seem like a fucking mess. Hulk is Hulking out, Thor is about to crush Iron Man (again). Steve is having flash backs to the 40’s. What exactly is goign on here? Is it just stress? Is it Scarlet Witch? Is it Loki’s sceptor?

Comic Book Brawls: Black Panther -vs- Red Skull

Comic Book: Avengers Vol. 3, Issues #69-70 (Red Zone arc)

Combatants:

Black Panther/T’challa- The King and Protector of Wakanda, the super advanced African nation that has never been conquered and is home to the only supply of Vibranium. T’challa at this time had peak human strength, speed, and agility, enhanced senses (think Wolverine) along with being a master of martial arts and one of the smartest people in the world. He is also known as being one of the best tacticians in the world.

-vs-

The Red Skull– Skull is one of the most vile and disgusting things in all of the Marvel Universe. He is Nazi to the core and will do what is necessary to clean and dominate the human race. At this point in the comics, I believe he had peak human strength, speed, and agility as well as being a very good hand-to-hand combatant. He was basically Captain America but evil.

Background: The Red Skull released a biochemical agent that was rapidly killing people around Mt. Rushmore and was spreading across the United States at an alarming pace. He had just incapacitated Falcon and beat up Captain America and was talking about how he was going to frame Wakanda and the Black Panther for the terrorist attack. Right at that point, Black Panther and Iron Man burst into the room. 1

When Skull makes this comment, it basically enrages T’challa and, much to Iron Man’s surprise, he instantly attacks Skull while Captain America and Falcon are being poisoned and dying.

2 3

After Panther was blasted out of the window, Red Skull quickly inconpacitates Iron Man’s armor, leaving Tony rather helpless in the same poison room as Falcon and Captain America. Shit then hits the fan between Skull and Panther and Black Panther drops one of my favorite lines in all of comics:

“I’m going to break your jaw”

4 5

Check out the rest of the fight after the jump! You don’t want to miss this!
