Welcome To the Marvel Movie Universe Spidey!

Well its official. No, we don’t know 100% of the details but Spider-Man will officially be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

This has been a long time coming. Spider-Man is in the top 3 most known super heroes in the whole world. He is easily Marvel’s top dog and has been well… for a long ass time. He appeals to kids, adults… everyone. He has one of the best and most known rogue galleries in comics period (only one better is Batman) including the likes of Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Rhino. Doc Ock, Vulture, Venom, Carnage, The Jackal, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, ect ect. Could we possibly have Goblin/Norman show up in say… an Avengers movie? Possibly Dark Reign? We can only hope…

And now we might actual get a good movie franchise for him. To be honest, I am not the biggest Spider-Man fan. His cartoon used to be awesome as a kid and his comics are sometimes epic… but I don’t follow his comics much anymore and his movies have been completely average in my view. Yes, even the beloved Toby Spider-Man. The reboot has been super hit or miss.. juggling between awesome and downright cringe worthy. So giving SOME control to Marvel is bound to improve things overall.

It also gives us a chance to see Spidey interact with the rest of the MCU, which could be cool as well. Could he be leading the Avengers after Infinity War? Maybe. Will this halt Sony’s desperate attempt at a Spidey Universe with the likes of “female spider-mans” and Sinister Six? We can only hope.

So where is what we do know in regards to the deal. And right now, I am only going to be positive because honestly, this news comes with some huge draw backs in my eyes.

1. Spider-Man will likely first appear in Captain America: Civil War. So, with the success of Winter Soldier + Iron Man in the movie + being post Age of Ultron + Spider-Man.. this movie is guaranteed to do over a billion dollars.

2. A new, rebooted Spider-Man will come July 27, 2017, moving Thor 3 from it spot and shifting everything forward.

3. Spider-Man is going back to high school and Garfield is OUT. That whole universe is out… we think.

The next article will go over why this news fucking sucks….

The “Eh, it’s Marvel so I am sure it’s good” Ant-Man Trailer!

There are a few problems with Ant-Man from the get go and it has nothing to do with the potential quality of the movie.

1) While Ant-Man has SOME name recognition in the comic book world, he is still D-list for sure. And to the casuals, he is on the same level as Guardians of the Galaxy.

2) His main powers are not exactly… all that cool. He can shrink while retaining his man strength. Yay? And talk to ants… yay? At least in the comics, Ant-Man can also become Giant Man (such ingenious code names btw).

3) His rogue gallery sucks, to the point they had to basically make up a villain for this movie.

4) The movie is stuck between two 800+ million dollar, big action movies (Age of Ultron and Civil War). It simply cannot compete with them on a pure action scale. It would be impossible and laughable for them to try.

So, while I will admit, I was really, really let down by this trailer… I took a step back, collected myself, lowered my expectations, and watched it again.

And at that point, I enjoyed the trailer for what it is.

The trailer is on a MUCH smaller scale than Ultron blowing up the world. The story seems much more intimate with the core thing being about “family.” And after “stopping Malekith from destroying all the 9 worlds,” “Hydra ruling the world,” “Ronan destroying a whole planet, ” and “Ultron ruling Earth,” ….. a more intimate story may be necessary to kind of take a breath and relax after watching worlds almost be destroyed year after year.

And remember… this was a teaser. And it featured awesome Michael Douglas. We never really got any idea of what the action will be like and we never saw Wasp… I mean “Hope” Van Dyne either.

I have high hopes for this movie still. Even if the trailer is just “ok.”

Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015

This list took some thinking outside the top 3. The top 3 I am super excited for, especially number one. After number 6 though, I had to think long and hard to find stuff to fill in 7-10. This year is nothing like last where I could have named 15 movies off the top of my head to at least consider.

#10- Mad Max: Fury

I have no idea what this movie is. I have no idea who Mad Max is. But, all my trusted websites keep talking about it as if it should be awesome so… there it is! Looks like its some heavy action at the worst so, might catch my attention.

#9- Spectre

I am not really a Bond fan. I have only seen a couple of them ever and was generally bored by them. I thought Skyfall was crazy overrated but, due to a weak year, this movie makes the list.

#8- Tak3n

If this movie is as good as the first, this will be a criminally low placing. However, if it is as bad/average as the second one, it belongs no where on this list. I am hedging my bets a little bit, but Iike the next two movies on my list, I am scared more than anticipating it.

#7- Terminator: Genisys

Talk about scared. I was scared about this movie before I saw the trailer… the trailer then scared the living shit out of me. The trailer makes this movie look TERRIBLE. This movie is this high on the list due to T1 and T2 alone (and I didn’t mind Salvation honestly). This is a hopeful rating more than anything.

#6- Fantastic 4

This is only here because it is a comic book movie. We have gotten nothing so far in regards to promotion. Only a couple of leaked images (one awesome, one terrible), horrid rumors (found footage? Doom a blogger?), and me being scared shitless. The best thing about Fantastic Four is their villains (Doom, Galactus) and Doom sounds terrible right now. It seems like they may be going the Batman route (realistic-ish) which works for Batman because he is human. I… I just… this could get ugly.

Finally, we get to movies I am actually excited to see instead of hoping and praying it is halfway decent. This list is nothing like last years awesomeness but it is still solid and feature a couple of billion dollar franchises.

#5- Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars as a whole is really cool on paper. Really cool reading about stuff on Wiki. And then I watch the movies and get really confused on why everyone nuts every time they hear the word “Star Wars.” Phantam Menance was garbage. Attack of the Clones was garbage. Revenge of the Sith has some good moments but some very, very cringe worthy moments as well and in general, makes little sense when looking at the Star Wars franchise as a whole. Then you get to the original trilogy which… is ok I guess? Hell, my favorite “Star Wars” related thing is problem the Clone Wars animated cartoon.

But despite all my criticism… like I said, on paper this should be awesome. Can it reach that potential though?

#4- The Kingsman: Secret Service

This looks fucking fun. The End.

#3- Ant-Man

Ant-Man… the forgotten Marvel Universe movie. Tucked behind Age of Ultron but before the start of Phase 3 with Civil War. This movie could easily be this years Guardians of the Galaxy or be… wait… Marvel doesn’t make bad movies do they? At worst they are “Iron Man 2” level? YES!

But this looks fun as well. A heist movie with a strong cast… I expect an above average Marvel flick. And for this year, that gets you number 3.

#2- Jurassic World

I don’t know why I am so excited about this honestly. Jurassic Park 2 was miserable. #3 is one of those, “if its on cable and on one of the good parts I will watch for a bit” movies.

Luckily for the franchise, the first one is epic (could be because it came out when I was in elementary school… probably explains peoples obsession with Star Wars as well huh?). Chris Pratt is epic. The trailer was bananas and we didn’t even see the mystery dinosaur that fucks people up. And somewhat controlled Raptors? Yep, sign me up!

#1- Avengers: Age of Ultron

This is number one by a LARGE LARGE margin. This movie looks absolutely EPIC. The first one was the best comic book movie ever. There is no scale to hold back my anticipation for this movie. Hell, even looking ahead years and years, this is still near the top of anticipation, only behind its own sequels and Black Panther. Ultron looks utterly terrifying in this. The seeds for Civil War will be planted. The appearance of Witch and Quicksilver. Hulkbuster armor. Rumors of T’challa. What more could you want?

Avengers: Infinity War Thoughts

So this is it. Ever since the reveal of Thanos at the end of The Avengers, the MCU has been slowly building to this… Infinity War. The event will be so big, it will actually be two movies.

We got teased by the Infinity Gauntlet in Odin’s Vault in Thor. We got teased by Thanos in The Avengers. We actually heard and saw Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy. So, let the speculation begin…

– We have seen four of the six Infinity Stones in the movies so far and the Infinity Gauntlet…

— Tesseract- In Asgard under the protection of Odin (Loki)
— Gauntlet- In Asgard under the protection of Odin (Loki)
— Aether- Last seen with The Collector, although his house went boom in Guardians of the Galaxy
— Scepter- Last seen with Baron von Strucker of Hydra in the after credit scene of The Winter Soldier.
— Orb- On Xandar under the protection of the Nova Crops as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy.

So we need two more. There are plenty of movies to introduce the last two with Dr. Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Infinity War Part 1, and Inhumans being prime candidates.

– Big Question #1… when is Thanos going to you know… actually collect the Stones? So far, not only has he failed to collect any Stones but he actually lost one (Scepter). Thor: Ragnarok sounds like a good place to start collecting the Stones and Gauntlet (especially if Loki is still working for the Mad Titan). Will they use Infinity War Part 1 to continue the collection as well?

Thanos Gauntlet Gif

– Big Question #2… how many Avengers will show up in this War? And how many will show up in BOTH movies? It seems highly likely that the originals with solos- Stark, Cap, Thor- will only show up in one of the movies as their contracts will end then. But, at that point in the movies, you will have the following Avengers/Heroes available…

— Iron Man
— Hulk
— Thor
— Captain America
— Hawkeye
— Black Widow
— Nick Fury
— Maria Hill
— Vision
— Quicksilver
— Scarlet Witch
— Star Lord
— Groot
— Rocket
— Drax
— Gamora
— War Machine
— Falcon
— Black Panther
— Captain Marvel
— Dr. Strange

and then add in potential Avengers such as Winter Soldier, any other members that show up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, any members of TV show Agents of SHIELD (Coulson, Mockingbird, ect), AND it could include any of the Netflix heroes if they really wanted too (Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Daredevil). Frankly… there is a huge potential list of heroes to show up but how may is Marvel really going to want to pay? And who might potentially be killed?

Avengers Comic Book

– Why is Loki going to be in this movie? Is he going to help the Heroes? Is he still working for Thanos? If he is… I would 100% expect him to flip sides at least once or twice.

– So… what do you do after a movie this big? What villain can compare to an omnipotent Thanos hell bent on destroying everything? The story cannot get bigger at that point. You would have to scale back. Do they go with a time traveling story with Kang? Get the Earth based villains together with Masters of Evil? It will be very, very interesting what happens after all this.

Kang: Next Movie?
Kang: Next Movie?

Civil War and Ragnarok Thoughts…

Two of Marvels OGs, Thor and Captain America, are getting third movie during Phase 3. Both were expected to get a third movie considering the profits made (especially Captain America) but it was nice to get confirmation. The subtitles given to these movies help us define what is going to happen even more as they are both the names of some pretty important comic book arcs/stories.

Let’s start with Thor: Ragnarok…

thor: ragnarok

– Thor: The Dark World underwhelmed a bunch of people and money wise, was underwhelming when compared to The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. Sure, I loved it, but I am a Thor fan through and through. So I am looking forward to this movie big time.

– The very, very basic Ragnarok storyline is this basically, the fall of Asgard. It is a cycle of death of Asgard and the rebirth of Asgard afterwards. In the comics, Ragnarok is brought on by the release of Surtur the fire demon and the creation of the Twilight sword (think a super powered Balrog with a giant fucking sword) as he marches his fire demons into Asgard (and Earth) to destroy it essentially. Surtur is as strong if not stronger than Odin. In the comics, Loki is the one that started this (with Malekith I think) so it will be curious to see how this all works with Loki impersonating Odin right now.

– Kevin Feige, the MCU architech, says this moving is going to have massive reprocussions on future story lines and Thor, doing what The Winter Soldier did for Captain America and the larger MCU (destroying SHIELD). To me, this HAS to mean this movie leads to Thanos acquiring the Tesseract and the Gauntlet (both in the Asgardian vaults) and likely has Thor take his place as King of Asgard with Odin being killed off with Surtur. This solves two problems for Marvel. (1) This gives Thor an out from not appearing in one of the Infinity War movies (due to his responsibility of rebuilding Asgard) and (2) Starts the process of Thanos actually aquiring the Infinity Stones since at the moment, all he has done is lose one of them (the scepter) and failed to acquire any of them.

– What likely happens I would guess… Loki releases Surtur (or Thanos does) on Asgard as a distraction to get the Tesseract and/or the Gauntlet to Thanos (Loki is likely still working for Thanos at this point). Fire demons may or may not be sent to Midgard/Earth as well. Odin and Thor defend Asgard, with Odin dying to stop Surtur and Thor now being King. The Gauntlet and Tesseract is lost in the destruction (as well as Loki likely getting away), starting the process of Thanos actually collecting the Infinity Stones.

– We know Loki survives as we have heard he is going to be in Avengers: Infinity War. Is he going to switch back to the good side in Infinity War or is he one of Thanos’s generals? Who knows at this point with Loki.

– One thing I hope Marvel learned from Guardian of the Galaxy’s success… we don’t need Earth in a cosmic movie. Thor 3 can entirely be set in the other 9 realms and people will still come in droves if the movie is good. Please, end the Jane Foster stuff… it isn’t needed for this storyline.

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is getting much, much more press than Thor: Ragnarok and for good reason. (a) The Winter Soldier was one of the best comic book movies ever and the same directors are coming back. (b) Civil War is an iconic storyline in the comics. (c) Tony Stark is going to be in the movie. So, what could this all mean really and what do we know?

– Civil War in the comics had mostly to do with the Super Hero Registration Act and the “end” of secret identities. Obviously, there are no secret identities in the MCU so that won’t be part of this. I imagine, there will be some sort of government law or act or attempt to control the super hero… Tony Stark will go along with it to some extent while Cap will not. Leading to fun times.

– From the very beginning in Avengers, there was tension between Captain America and Tony Stark. In Age of Ultron, apparently that tension is going to multiply.

Captain America/Iron Man Civil War

– RDJ being in this movie plus the movie being the first big movie after Age of Ultron (sorry Ant-Man) means it is going to do a billion dollars easily. This is going to be like a mini-Avengers movie.

– Oh… and T’challa/Black Panther is going to be in the movie. How? Why? I am not really sure. Does the world get involved with this act instead of just the United States and Wakanda/T’challa supports Steve Rogers? This will be interesting to see how big of a role Black Panther plays in this movie.

– Hawkeye has also been confirmed in this movie. I would assume he would be on Stark’s side (someone needs to be).

– And how many other heroes are going to show up? Quicksilver? Witch? Widow? Vision? Fury? Falcon?

– And what happens to the Winter Soldier story line now? Most people Cap 3 would be a continuation of the Winter Soldier stuff + someone like Zemo to act as the villain. But with Civil War now becoming the focus… what happens to that?

– Is there even going to be a central REAL bad guy?

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer is Here… “There are no strings on me”

It was supposed to be NEXT Tuesday, until a low-res version leaked and Marvel said, “fuck it” and overshadowed every movie announcement for the next 2 weeks by dropping the trailer now.

Lots and lots of thoughts tomorrow but DAMN… this exceeded all of my expectations. Ultron looks and sounds WONDERFUL.

Plot in a Nut Shell: A group of random misfits end up forming a team to stop Ronan from aquiring the Orb and destroying the planet Xandar. And then add a whole lot of funk and hilariousness and comic book magic.

Spoiler Free Thoughts…

– HOLY MOLY THIS WAS WEIRD lol. From the opening frame in space, you could tell this movie was going to have a lot of funk and a lot of funk was delivered.

– ALL of the humor flows naturally in this movie. Nothing seems forced like it was in Thor 2. This is probably Marvel’s funniest movie and the humor is quite different from Tony Stark quick quips and the like.

– THIS is how you do team movies without doing movies for each character before hand. THIS is how X-Men movies should have been. THIS is how I hope Justice League is done. You focus on the characters, and let small things and conversations fill in the gaps. You don’t need flashbacks or any of that shit.

– Not having any idea about the characters added to this movie for me. It was something different for me. I know about the X-Men, Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, ect. I knew very little about everyone involved and it left me with no preconceived notions or expectations. I could really just enjoy the ride and I did.

– All the main characters had their moments of awesome. If I had to choose, I would say Rocket and Groot stole the show for sure. They were both hilarious and both had great action scenes, especially Groot. The weakest was probably Gamora, as a lot of the times she didn’t come across as the deadliest assassin in the universe.

– Ronan was a fucking bad ass. Not as complex as say… Loki but much much more powerful. Like a Cosmic Red Skull or something. He may have been actually TOO powerful to be honest. Nebula felt kind of like a waste and I expected a bit more from her.

– THANOS SIGHTING! And we here him speak. He had one of the greatest lines in the film for sure.

– If I had to re-rack the MCU movies, I would probably have them at Avengers, Cap 2, Thor/Thor2, Guardians, Hulk, Iron Man, Cap, IM3, IM2. I am a Thor fanboy hence the high ranking.

– Villain wise, I would probably put Ronan at… hmmm… Loki, WS/Hydra, Stane, Ronan, Mandarin, Red Skull, Abomination, Malekith, Whiplash.

– I found Youndu annoying as fuck but he was kinda bad ass with that arrow thing.

Last Trailer I am Watching from Guardians of the Galaxy

I don’t want to spoil anymore of the movie for myself, but we get a much better look at well… everyone including Ronan, Rocket, and Groot.

Seriously, this movie looks like so much damn fun. And we still have no idea what the bad guys motivation is (probably something to do with the orb/Infinity Stone) and we still haven’t seen Thanos.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is Out Today!

The Captain America sequel hits US theaters today.

All the reviews so far have been crazy positive. The buzz is that it is as good if not better than Iron Man 1. The action and story have been described as epic. Supposedly it changes the MCU big time.

And the after credit scene is supposed to be bunkers.

This is the first blockbuster of 2014 (sorry 300 2) and it looks like it is going to start us off right. I will be there tonight or tomorrow morning depending on my work schedule tomorrow.

Make sure to check out the posts this week in preview for this movie. I have posts on things to remember heading into the movie, re-reviews of Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel’s The Avengers, and a preview of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
